Black Friday is quickly approaching, and I’m sure you all are being inundated with fliers, coupons, and emails about the huge promotions and sales going on everywhere this Friday.
I ask you to think about one things as you prepare to hit the mall or the other big box stores. Remember who you’re supporting when you’re shopping- think about it. Do you really want your Christmas traditions to be supporting child labor in China, unsafe mining practices in Africa, and lead filled ornaments from India? Do you really want to build your traditions upon the externalization of costs that destroys the traditions of others?
Or, would you like to support a neighbor, friend, teacher- just about anyone you could know? That’s the difference in buying handmade. You can be supporting fair labor practices that supports anyone you could know; an artist that is willing to work hard, is paid fairly, and makes something special, unique, and safe for you to give this holiday season.
Support an artist! Buy handmade this Black Friday!
